Do you remember SWOOP, the groundbreaking mid '90s popfunk band responsible for songs such as: "Apple Eyes" (one of the biggest Australian singles of 96), "Rock Dog", "Do It", "Neighbourhood Freak" and "Everything I Do From Now On Is Going To be Funky" (all high rotation JJJ staples)?
Well, Professor Groove and The Booty Affair is a recent project from the writers, performers and funkifiers that were behind Swoop. Founders: Dr Roland Kapferer PhD (vocals, and yes he really is a Professor!) and Joshua "Jman" Beagley (guitar) are back with a new band and a new album, And So Funketh The Wise Man.
Mixing the raw funk power of a live band with the musical aesthetic of the DJ, PG and the Booty's have become a band primed and inspired by the dance music revolution, working breakbeats, exhilarating buildups and sampled vocals into their funk roots.
The tracks cover a lot of funky and freaky territory. From the electro-funk 2-steppin' groove of first single "Do Wot I Can", to the Washington Go Go-fuelled P-Funk of "Just An MC", to the James Brown meets dancefloor groove of "Funky Power", this album is a constant stone cold groove! And it's as catchy as all get-out.
