Sonic Mayhem Orchestra, under the fearless leadership of saxophonist, composer and conductor James Ryan (Award winning and internationally touring composer, saxophonist and band leader of The Subterraneans), have been carving their niche in the Sydney music scene after forming in 2012 and playing their first shows at the Blue Beat music club in Sydney. The mission statement of this gargantuan fourteen piece ensemble has remained true: To bring together Sydney’s best and brightest in a large ensemble bristling with astonishing soloists that play as an ensemble, as one.

Whether playing James Ryan’s daring original compositions or the orchestra offering its unique revues of the works of Gershwin, Ray Charles, Bob Marley or even Bob Dylan, SMO’s evenings of live music are a sight to be seen and a truly unique experience in the Australian music landscape. SMO has performed with notable guests such as Scott Tinkler, Lionel Cole, Lachy Doley, and Dennis Mackrel (Countie Basie Big Band).
