In the early phase of writing the songs for The Wild Captain Radio Tour, Lush sat down and delved into the genres of all her old favorites from the Blues, Soul, Rock, Singer/Songwriter & Jazz. This process helped shape the vision for this album, especially to recover some lost sounds and influences from her childhood, particularly from bands like Jackson Brown, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Al Green, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Chaka Kahn, Whitney Houston, Fleetwood Mack, Bob Seger, Michael McDonald, Jo Cocker, Dylan, Stevie Ray Vahaun, Cold Chisel and Renee Geyer & some other great Australian Rock bands as well as country artists like Bonnie Raitt & Derek Trucks band.
Her first album earned her Best Female Artist from the US IAMA (Independent Acoustic Music Awards), Best International Artist at the US SAW (Songwriters Association of Washington) & in her Sydney home town the ASA (Australian Songwriters Association) Rudy Brandsma Award for Songwriting Excellence as well as Gibson Guitar and the French 100% Songwriting Competition.
"The Wild Captain Radio Tour is heart and soul on a stick. For me it was love at first hear. It kicks arse from track #1. Kate sings the shyte out of every song, the band seriously cooks and the production and arrangements are masterful. If it was a recipe it would be high end 5 star stuff. Make no mistake, this album is something special on a number of levels. I could go on and on, but let's just say - for aural relief take Kate Lush & The Wild Captain Radio Tour in LARGE doses. Love it!"
