CONSUMMATE CARDIER... An eagerly-awaited career highlight from an acclaimed master of...
"Enigmatic, compelling and insightful songs. A sweep across a musical terrain that could only be his own – one full of twists, turns and textures" – Glenn A. Baker
Glenn Cardier has taken the Sideshow into Sydney's legendary Alberts Studios to produce his album 'Stranger Than Fiction' released in 2012. The Sideshow are Rex Goh (lead guitar), Davo Fester (drums and percussion), Phil Grove (keyboards) and Nick Hoorweg (upright and electric bass). It was hard to ignore the sense of history in the studios, with photos of AC/DC, Vanda and Young and Neil Finn adorning the walls. Davo Fester used the Easybeats' old drumkit throughout. Cardier then worked on further tracks at his own studio adding acoustic and electric guitars, vocals and Tony Gibson's trombone.
The cover shot of 'Stranger Than Fiction' is 'Akrobat', a photograph of 36 year old Freddie Harrison who combines acrobatics with piano-playing. He is making his debut at London's Windmill Theatre in 1952. The spirit of people like Freddie is present throughout this collection of Cardier's lyrical rock'n'roots songs. As Cardier says when presenting the album, 'Here's to the artifice of performance, here's to all you odd ones out.'
